Treatments are tailor made and specific to each individual animal’s needs and problems but generally consist of a combination of massage, myofascial release and McTimoney chiropractic techniques.
What is McTimoney chiropractic?
Just like humans, animals can suffer musculoskeletal problems including pain in the neck, back, and can benefit from McTimoney treatment.
McTimoney chiropractic for animals was developed by John McTimoney, who adapted human chiropractic technique for use in animals.
McTimoney treatments are safe and effective. It is an holistic, non-invasive, whole body treatment and as the adjustments made are very gentle, fast and light is readily accepted by most animals.
The treatments focus on correcting skeletal misalignments and optimising alignment of the spine and pelvis in order to to realign and re-balance the musculoskeletal system that has become impaired through skeletal misalignments. It can restore correct function of the skeletal system, nervous system and surrounding soft tissue.
A treatment can release muscle tension, pain, discomfort, and nerve impingements, restoring health, movement, soundness, and performance.
What is massage therapy?
Massage therapy is a form of manual therapy that involves the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues to reduce stress, ease muscle tension, and promote relaxation and overall well-being.
A range of techniques and massage strokes are used, including
Effleurage
Petrissage
Compression
Deep fibre friction
Myofascial release
What to expect from a treatment
Firstly a history of your animal will be taken that will include any medical problems, any performance problems and lifestyle. As part of this you will be required to sign that vet consent has been given for your animal to have treatment. Next your animal will be statically and dynamically assessed, which allows your animal’s movement and any gait abnormalities to be observed. If any undiagnosed lameness is apparent, then the animal will be referred back to the vet.
Your animal will then be palpated to locate any areas of tension and discomfort and the the neck, spine and pelvis is checked for any misalignments. Any misalignments are then treated using McTimoney chiropractic techniques, which is followed up by soft tissue techniques and massage (where necessary) to improve the effectiveness of the chiropractic treatment.
Once the treatment is completed a full report and aftercare advice will be provided.
